Fennel tea has been used for centuries in India for improving digestive health. You may have noticed at Indian restaurants that fennel seeds are available after a meal. It’s the uncoated, sugar-free seeds that work their magic on gut health: they aid with digestion by alleviating gas, indigestion, acid reflux and constipation.
A simple brew of fennel tea using the seeds (about a tablespoon) and/or some fresh fennel leaves infused in boiling water for about 15 minutes helps with stimulating the agni or digestive fire. Fennel has both cooling and sweet properties. Not only does it support efficient functioning of the digestive system, it also helps calm frayed nerves and strengthens the respiratory system, boosting natural immunity. Fennel is considered to be a natural detoxifier because it releases toxins and excess water from the body when consumed regularly.
Fennel tea has antiviral properties and has been shown to help treat Covid-19 patients in many parts of the world including China and India. Recent studies also indicate that shikimic acid found in fennel is a promising antidote to treating the spike protein – it actually stops the production and transmission of the spike protein in people who have been vaccinated and have contracted Covid-19 when used as part of a holistic treatment protocol. Other plants that contain shikimic acid include star anise and pine needles which can also be brewed and consumed as tea.
